2. Committee remit
The Chair set out the committee's remit, agreed by the Senedd on 16 June, and said how she sees its work. Members were invited to note the remit.
- Sarah Cooper-Lesadd (Reform UK) said the committee's work is not the most visible but is among the most important. She said the quality, clarity and accessibility of laws, and proper scrutiny, affect everyone in Wales.
- Sarah Cooper-Lesadd said the remit is to carry out the functions of the responsible committee under Standing Orders 21 and 26C. It also covers legislation, the competence of laws, and their accessibility and clarity.
- Sarah Cooper-Lesadd noted that, compared with the last Senedd, the constitutional committee has been split off from this committee.
- Sarah Cooper-Lesadd said the work includes statutory instruments and legislative consent motions, which she called a core part of the work. She said training would follow later in the meeting, before more rigorous work begins next week.
