Deprivation

The Welsh Government ranks every neighbourhood in Wales, from the most deprived (1) to the least deprived (1,917). It looks at income, jobs, health, education, housing, access to services, safety and the local environment. It describes places, not people: not everyone in a deprived area is poor, and many people on low incomes live elsewhere.

12 of the neighbourhoods here are among the 10% most deprived in Wales, and 12 are among the 10% least deprived. If deprivation were spread evenly, you would expect about 12 of each.

The most deprived is Rhyl West 2, ranked 1 of 1,917. The least deprived is Mold South 2, ranked 1,902.

Second homes

In March 2023, in the typical area here, about 8 in every 1,000 homes on the council tax list were second homes. Across Wales the typical figure was 6.

None of its areas had 50 or more in every 1,000.

These figures are for wider areas of about 7,000 people, so neighbouring neighbourhoods share a colour.

About these figures

Each neighbourhood (a Lower layer Super Output Area, the smallest area most official statistics are published for) is placed in the constituency that contains its centre. A constituency's figure for Welsh speakers is the average of its neighbourhoods, which have similar numbers of people.

The maps are read from DataMapWales, the Welsh Government's map service, and checked once a month for updates. Last read 26 October 2026.
