What additional support has the Welsh Government made available to those hosting Ukrainian families seeking refuge and who have found that they themselves are now in need of some support?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Social Justice
We are grateful to the many people across Wales who have offered accommodation and support to individuals and families fleeing the devastating war in Ukraine. We recognise the considerable responsibility that this involves and have a range of measures in place to support sponsors.
We regularly update our guidance for Homes for Ukraine sponsors and hosts, with the latest version available at https://gov.wales/ukraine
A helpline has been launched for people arriving in Wales from Ukraine and for people who are acting as sponsors to provide advice and guidance. For callers in the UK, the number is: Freephone 0808 175 1508; for callers outside the UK, the number is: +44 (0)20 4542 5671. The helpline is available 24/7.
We are also establishing a programme of support to raise awareness about the opportunity and practicalities of sponsoring, as well as training on a range of vital topics, including reflective practice for sponsors/hosts with trauma experts.
Bespoke support will be offered, which includes one-to-one mediation sessions, email/phone support and an online portal with easily accessible information. We will be able to share further information shortly.
