What proportion of the Welsh Government's budget for 2025-26 will be invested in researching and implementing the use of AI technologies in the NHS?

The Welsh Government is prioritising investment in line with the Digital and Data Strategy for Health and Social Care in Wales. However, it is not possible to provide a breakdown of all research and implementation spend, which would include AI investment in NHS Wales in 2025-26.
Examples of the use of AI in clinical services include extending the use of Breast Ibex AI to all laboratories, the use of AI in stroke services in all health boards and funding a pilot study in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to develop a new AI algorithm to triage routine skin histology cases for urgent reporting.
