Question
What is the Cabinet Ministers strategy for implementing the recommendations of the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales, specifically regarding the urgent need to place intergovernmental relations on a firm, statutory footing?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Government Effectiveness & the Constitution (Dafydd Trystan Davies)
The Welsh Government is committed to implementing the recommendations of the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales. We will establish a new National Commission for Wales to support this work, including overseeing progress on further devolution, engaging the public in a national conversation on Wales’s constitutional future, and strengthening the evidence base for further reform.
In line with the Commission’s recommendations, we will press the UK Government to strengthen both the structures that underpin inter-governmental co-operation and the Sewel Convention, by placing them on a firm statutory footing.
