Plaid Cymru Debate - Provisional Local Government Settlement
Plaid Cymru's Heledd Fychan proposed a motion on the Welsh Government's provisional funding for councils. It asked the Government to protect front-line services and work with councils to lower council tax. Labour and the Conservatives tabled amendments. The Senedd rejected both amendments and the motion, so nothing was agreed.
- Motion without amendment
Whether to agree Plaid Cymru's motion as originally written, with no changes.
Rejected - Amendment 1, tabled in the name of Jane Hutt
Whether to replace most of the motion with Labour's wording, which noted £7.6 billion for local government and the Government's offer to work with others on the Final Budget.
Rejected - Amendment 2, tabled in the name of Paul Davies
Whether to add the Conservative amendment: an independent review of the council funding formula, using reserves to keep council tax low, a local vote on rises of 5 per cent or more, and less bureaucracy.
