Reform UK Debate - Use of mobile phones in classrooms
Amendment 1, tabled in the name of Heledd Fychan
What this vote was about
Whether to accept Heledd Fychan's amendment, which replaced the whole motion with support for the Government's consultation on statutory guidance on phones in schools.
Reform UK's Llŷr Powell asked the Senedd to call on the Welsh Government to legislate for a ban on mobile phones in classrooms, with medical or educational exceptions. Plaid Cymru's Heledd Fychan's amendment replaced this with support for the Government's consultation on guidance. The Senedd agreed the amended motion.

To propose that the Senedd:
1. Welcomes the Welsh Government's decision to consult on statutory guidance on restricting the use of mobile phones in schools and recognises the importance of considering the fullest range of stakeholder views before making a final decision on the guidance.
2. Supports the Welsh Government's approach of setting clear national expectations on restricting mobile phone use while enabling schools to implement policies that reflect their local circumstances and the needs of individual learners, including where use is medically or educationally necessary.
